First Camping Trip of 2011!

Early in June we went on our first camping trip of the year to Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park. It was a beautiful place to go although we did forget quite a few things! Ah well - we now have a list for the next trip. It reminded me of a cross between Carseland and Drumheller as far as camping areas with a lot of poplar trees, tall bushes, and the hoodoos. The hoodoos were very different than the ones in Drumheller though.

We took a hike to see the pictographs in the area but we didn't realize how far we were going - we ended up going 2.5 km one way with the kids and the dog! Peggy had a ball on the way there but even she was pooped on the way back and curled up in the shade every chance she got. The day of our hike it was about 26 degrees! Poppy could have marched on forever I think but eventually I popped her on my back in the Babyhawk and she fell asleep. Rowan was very tired and had a hard time on the way back - he's not up for long walks in the heat. This first picture of the kids is when we were just setting out on our hike.
This picture is when we stopped for a big snack and some water about 3/4 of the way to our destination.

We were very comfortable in our tent trailer and I must say I do love the furnace option which we used on the last night we were there. It rained the entire night. We took our caterpillars as this is our first year raising them through to butterflies and I wasn't sure if they'd be ok at home for 5 days. I'm sure they would have been but it was interesting to watch them grow on the trip - pics to follow in a future post.
