Welcome, April!

Oh sweet April - came in with warmer, sunnier days.  For the first week.  Tonight we are seeing a major snowfall, slick roads, and some freezing rain.  But here we have a few photos of what we enjoyed this past week!

Saturday we picked up Grandpa and headed out for a little hike and fetch at the river.  Fish Creek Park is about 5 minutes from my Dad's house so it was a short drive to the Sicome Lake parking lot.  We wandered a short distance to find 5 beautiful white-tailed deer but they moved on before I could get a picture of them.  We also saw and heard several woodpeckers, robins, and other smaller birds.  This is a spot I haven't been to since Rowan was about 18 months old and we met up with some friends who I don't know if we've seen more than once since!  Rowan enjoyed the spot and we will have to get back regularly.

We were a bit late colouring eggs this year - we did ours the day before Easter!  This year I boiled about 2 dozen for all the kids to enjoy.

I thought the kids loved devilled eggs so this is my first attempt at making them with some of our Easter eggs.  They weren't as bit a hit as I thought they would be.  I don't like eggs at all so I couldn't say if they were any good or not.

Poppy did her own hair this day and was quite proud.  Suits her, I think!

And just look what we found at the Garden store.....lots of manufactured Gnome and Fairy houses, furniture, and figurines!  I put my request in for Mother's Day - let's see if Rowan remembers!

We took a drive around the Garden Centre looking for a spot to get to the pathway by the river as I had brought the kids bikes.  We couldn't find anything dry and smooth enough for biking but did find this amazing playground with a huge field and bike path.  The kids opted for this spot and we skipped our river trip for the week.

Grandma got tickets for the Hitmen game this week and I was fortunate enough to get to go with Rowan!  (Actually when Rand assumed he was going to go it happened to be a particularly long day for me, and I wondered when I might get a turn to go?  Being the wonderful guy he is, he right away told me to go and have a good time.  Which I did!)  Rowan started doing some sort of Robot dance move during the game.  It was a lucky one as he caught a puck and we were both on the big screen TV or the whole crowd to see.  And the Hitmen won 4-2!

Friday we met up with 4 other families to play at a park and enjoy the weather and friends.  We drove to the other side of the city and most of the people there were from our neighbourhood or close by, which was a bit comical.  It was ice cold at first and I was a bit worried that I didn't have a  toque and Poppy didn't have a park.  (Yes, you often need a toque and parka, even in April, in this city!)

Later Friday saw cooler weather and by Saturday we were getting snow again.  The forecast is cooler this week so I don't know if we will get outside much.

During this week Rowan did a music practice every day and once we did some pen and paper work.  We had a talk about math and so on brought up by Rowan.  He asked, "Why do you want me to be good at math?"  I responded that I felt he was good at math on his own, I didn't really need to do much about that.   I just like him to do some math on paper once in a  while so I can see what he knows, but I don't really think that is where he *learns* math.  He agreed.  I said Lego, baking, reading the clock, etc. were some examples of times he was learning math, and a lot of that he teaches himself.  He agreed again, especially the part about Lego.  "Like, when I'm making something I look and see there's 6 on this side but I need 3 on this side, so I have to figure out how to make it all fit together.  I guess that's math."  Yes Rowan, it is!
